Miniature cabinet of curiosities project

I know I'm shooting myself in the foot by posting about this too soon but I'm going to post each item as it's done, I think

First: a new type of guy

Oh BOY I'm not sure about this one, I think it might be too chunky and colorful to fit the vibe I want, but I'll think about it

I finally finished the display box too, although it's hard to photograph something with a glass front

There are little holes in the bookcase and the back panel, for the lights

Have you ever heard of... the Vegetable Lamb of Tartary https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetable_Lamb_of_Tartary

I couldn't make it very tall because it has to fit on a shelf, so we'll say it's not a full grown sheep, just a lamb bud

My apologies for the fingers

A Fiji Mermaid, basically taxidermy to make a gross little goblin monkey-fish https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiji_mermaid

New object: a pinned Death's Head Moth in a carnelian frame (because I didn't want to do wood again)

All of this is Sculpey Premo polymer clay, and acrylic paint using a 000 miniatures brush and not breathing while I did it

Sorry about the fingers, I couldn't get it angled to the light

BEHOLD: Basilikos, king of snakes

These are often depicted with legs and/or wings, I decided to go with just wings so I could coil it up in a crystal ball, like taxidermied snakes are sometimes

It doesn't show up in photographs well, but in person you can still see it through the resin— which is wonky and bubbled but I've never done anything like this before, so I'm pretty pleased

I based it loosely on a Banded Krait, love those poisonous stripes

Behold, my tiny brain. Everyone look at my tiny little brain

I remade that dang book from upthread, I feel much better about book 2

Some assorted jars: I've made 4 mandrakes now & I'd consider them all failures, because they all separated from the resin in a horrible way. I have no idea why, my brain in resin didn't do this, & I followed all the online tips about cleaning the clay with alcohol & pouring thin layers of resin

The raven bones I just thought would be interesting

The mushrooms are bordering on too twee for this project but I love them, I'm also too twee for this project

Miniature cabinet of curiosities project, I'm ALL DONE

Hooray! I finished a project!!

I tend to look at things I've made and fixate on the details I wish I could change, but overall I'm happy with this one

I got so hasty when I could see the finish line that I forgot to take separate photos of 2 of the things I made: on the 3rd shelf there's a mummified Egyptian cat, and on the bottom shelf there's a (real) green quartz crystal in a wrought iron holder. Everything else is detailed upthread
